1. Finishing your first draft is worthy of celebration—but you’re not done until after you complete a revision.
2. Do your homework before you query an agent, not after an offer is on the table.
3. Your book can be amazing, but it can be a hard sell if that particular genre isn’t hot in the marketplace at that moment.
4. It really does take that long between a publisher buying a book and that book hitting the shelves.
5. Just when you think your book is perfect, your editor will send a revision letter.
6. You never appreciate commas, or lack thereof, until after you review your copy edits.
7. Don’t skip the proofreading—you will always catch something that everyone missed.
8. Don’t wait until the last day to answer all your blog tour questions!
9. Negative reviews aren’t the end of the world, even if they feel that way (and chocolate is a wonderful cure).
10. The most important thing for an author to do after writing a book is write another book.
