Review - Surrounded by Water by Stephanie Butland

Title: Surrounded by Water
Author: Stephanie Butland
Pages: 320
Publisher: Transworld Digital
Release date: 10th April 2014

Blurb:

Elizabeth's world is turned upside down when her husband dies in a tragic drowning accident.
How typical of her kind, generous husband - a respected police officer - to sacrifice his own life saving a complete stranger's.
Or so she thinks.
What exactly was her husband doing at the lake that night? And what if his death isn't the most difficult thing she will have to deal with?
Elizabeth must face the consequences of her husband's actions. As she does so, it seems that the end of Mike's life is only the beginning of his wife truly getting to know him.

My Review:

3/5 stars

When Elizabeth's husband, Michael, who is a policeman, dies saving a girl from drowning, her life is turned upside down.
Why was Mike at the lake?
Were there things about him that Elizabeth didn't know?

Surrounded by Water is told from the present and from the past which I liked as it showed us how Elizabeth and Mike met and how their relationship developed. It is an emotional read and I really felt for Elizabeth, Mike's friends and his mother as they grieved. Mel, Elizabeth's sister, was my favourite character and she was very supportive of Elizabeth.
I saw the surprise coming and while the story was slow in some places I enjoyed it overall.
