Title: Talon (Talon, #1)
Author: Julie Kagawa
Pages: 400
Publisher: Harlequin TEEN

Blurb from Goodreads:

Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they're positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.

Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.

Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon's newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey—and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember's bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him—and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.

My Review:

2/5 stars

Dragons live among us hidden in human form but they are being hunted by the Order of St. George - a group of dragon slayers that have made it their mission for centuries to rid the world of dragons.
Ember and Dante Hill are spending their summer putting years of lessons to the test by trying to fit in with humans. Ember wants to spend her summer surfing but Talon has her in training every day. She is intrigued when a Rogue appears and insinuates that there is more to Talon than meets the eye.
Then Ember meets Garret, who is in the Order of St. George and undercover in a mission. She grows closer to Garret and starts feeling things that she, a dragon, shouldn't.

I wasn't a fan of The Iron King but when I saw this I was intrigued - a YA dragon book. What's not to like? A lot as it turns out.
Talon started off okay. The plot was interesting as Ember and Dante tried to fit in and make friends but my attention drifted around 60% and I skim read to the end not caring what happened.
The love triangle ruined Talon for me. Sure it creates tension having people that are supposed to hate each other fall in love but I didn't really feel the connection between Garret and Ember. I think it would have been better if the Rogue had been female instead of a male who just HAD to convince Ember to join him.
Ember was an alright protagonist. At times she could be quite funny but sometimes she had me rolling my eyes.
Garret was okay but are we really supposed to believe that a seventeen-year-old could be the best soldier in the Order of St. George? He's only seventeen!
While Talon has an intriguing premise, for me, it fell short.

Overall this was an okay but disappointing read.
