Blog Tour + Interview + Giveaway - Golden by Melinda Michaels

About Golden:

High school senior Hanna Loch just suffered a blackout in front of her entire homeroom class. She hasn’t had one in over ten years, and she’s terrified—the last time she blacked out, she woke up with no memory of her life before. To make matters worse, no one can explain why it happens. For Hanna, bad things tend to come in threes.

And that doesn’t even begin to cover it . . .

When she learns she could be a descendant of someone who lived once upon a time, Hanna must put her trust in William Vann, a descendant of one of the most hated villains ever known. Their histories are intertwined in more ways than she expected, and he has answers about her past, answers even her family won’t share.

But is it safe to put her trust in someone who appears to be danger reincarnate, while trying to escape the darkness that tried to kill her ten years ago?

A loose fairytale retelling, GOLDEN is a story that’s just right, weaving together lost secrets, vengeful enemies, and what happens when fiction becomes reality.

Trailer:

When did you start writing?
I began writing when I was about fourteen as a means of therapy. I was going through a rough time and writing gave me control, which developed into confidence.

What makes you want to write?
Writing is something that I’ve done for years and is a part of my daily life. It’s sort of a necessity. When I don’t write, I tend to feel off.

Do you ever get writer's block and what do you do to get over it?
I do! Writer’s block for me isn’t that I can’t think of where the story is going, but having too many directions to go. It may sounds weird, but I usually take my laptop into the laundry room, turn on the machines to drown out my thoughts and it works like a charm every time!

Do you have a special way of going about writing?
I always write out a chapter outline before I start writing a book. It is always completely different by the time I finish and sometimes I’m surprised when I read the original outline after the book is complete, but it helps me remember the core of the story when I go off the path.

Do you have any works in progress?
I’ve completed the second book, Roses and am currently working on the third book in the series, Glass.

What are your hobbies?
Repurposing old furniture is a love of mine, as well as hiking and biking trails.

How did you choose the character names for Golden?
I’m very picky when it comes to names and will often write without them until I find one that I think is the right fit. The spelling choice for Hanna is a Swedish variation and her surname, Loch, is Scottish as the original Goldilocks story was first told orally in the United Kingdom in the early 1800s.

Who is your favourite character in Golden?
I like Hanna’s friend Carly for her overly dramatic nature as well as Owen who is a lot more complex then he thinks he is.

How did you get the idea for Golden?
I always thought that the fairytales we hear as children have a lasting effect on us in our adult life, especially in our relationships. Terms like Prince Charming and Happily Ever After, in my opinion, are misleading and I wanted to try to write something that incorporated the stories that I love with a dose of reality. I think relationships take a lot of hard work and happily ever after is more about how people feel about themselves then the events that surround them.

What was your favourite part of writing Golden?
My favorite part would have to be the ending because of its simplicity. I don’t want to give it away, but I think it fits and is more believable than an extravagant conclusion.

What are you currently reading?
Inferno by Dan Brown. I’m a massive history geek and I get a thrill reading his books.

What is your favourite book?
Such a hard question! I don’t know if I have a favorite, but I do read the Hobbit once a year. It was the first book I fell in love with and every time I read it, I relive a thousand thoughts and feelings each time.

Who is your favourite author?
Another difficult question! I guess it would be a three-way tie between Ray Bradbury, Mark Twain and Alexandre Dumas.

What is your favourite film?
That’s impossible to answer! I’ve actually typed and deleted a least fifteen movies and I can’t pick!

What is your favourite TV show?
I loved Happy Endings and was crushed when it was cancelled. Still, greatest show of all time.

Quick-fire questions:

Chocolate or ice cream? Ice cream
Paperback or ebook? Paperback
Dogs or cats? I have both so it changes every day.
Go out or stay in? Go got!
Summer or winter? I love snow and sand so both!
