Kate Thompson's life is turned upside down when a gang - the
Rose Riders - hang her father and take a journal that holds the location of a
gold cache.
Hell-bent on vengeance for her father, Kate dresses as a boy
and hunts down the Rose Riders with the unwanted help of Jesse and Will Colton.
Will she be able to find the notorious Waylan Rose?
Will vengeance be enough for Kate?
Vengeance Road was my first YA Western and it was a
refreshing change.
Kate was likeable and headstrong. I felt sorry for her - she
had lost her mother at a young age and then her father was suddenly taken away
from her. I was rooting for her to get revenge and to make a new life for
herself.
The plot was good with a twist that I didn't see coming. I
wasn't gripped but I wanted to read on.
I liked the writing style, which was easy to follow, and
that the author wrote in Western-style language which helped reinforce the
setting.
There was some romance but it wasn't over the top and was
quite sweet.
Overall this was an enjoyable read that I would recommend.
